I go to a School that has an enrollment of over 40,000 students. That is quite massive. Now of this utterly over-the-top number of young adults, I would say that probably 10% want to be studying at SDSU. Ok I’ll be generous, 15%. Fluctuation here and there from year to year sure, but that is the number I’m going to stick by, 15%.
That other 85 percent, the overwhelming majority, is enrolled at school for one of three reasons.
1). It was the necessary next step after high school.
2).Their parents demanded it.
3). They want to be Van Wilder.
I was part of that 85% and looking back- Im disgusted. I wish i could build a time machine and travel back in time to bitch slap myself and say this: why go to school and not have the desire to be there. you're an utter and complete waste of time, money, and resources. If you have no desire to sit in class, what is the worth of sitting in the back of class on simultaneously browsing BBC/ICE CREAM on your laptop, texting your girlfriend, eating lunch and sleeping. All at once. Why would you waste four years of your life to embark on an educational journey you have no desire to be a part of? Not only are you wasting the time of your professor, but more importantly you're wasting your own time. Times you’re never going to get back from the prime of your life. Surely college is an amazing place and you can have attempt to have your Van Wilder-frat party-esq experience but the end result is so depressing. Four years wasted in classes doing something you didn’t want to do in the first place. STOP WASTING YOUR TIME AND GO GET A DREAM KID.
I started my college career in 04, left school to work full time at Kaiser Permanente, went back to school and switched my major, Switched it again and now im finally on the home stretch. Bachelors Degree son! I've got a dream now, I just wish it didnt take so long.
